Presenting the ESMOD Kuala Lumpur Graduation Fashion Show 2024 – “Resonance”

It was an evening of stars at the ESMOD Kuala Lumpur Graduation Fashion Show on September 28th, 2024. Held at ESMOD Kuala Lumpur @ The One Academy, it featured the newest batch of soon-to-be graduates who set the fashion runway ablaze with their show-stopping masterpieces. The exquisite collections of 13 emerging fashion designers saw to a total of 65 stunning garments that showcased remarkable individuality, concept and craftsmanship.

This time around, the stage saw the students of batch FD2109 exhibiting incredible designs centered around the theme of “Resonance” – each of them a vital brushstroke contributing to a larger masterpiece, harmonizing their unique melodies into a symphony of life that transcends boundaries and resonates with the echoes of eternity. The talented line-up are: Antonina Trevelyan Nejati Namin, Cheng Hui Rou, Cheryl Lock Yong Jia, Chiah Herng Pinn, Daniel Lee Zhen Hong, Kew Qian Ru, Lew Yen Yee, Mithesha Bimali Ekanayake, Ng Kai Xiang, Sam Xin Loo, Teo Pernie, Yap Yu Qi and Yurika Yudha.

Stepping into the spotlight after three years of hard work, creativity and tireless efforts, this fashion show celebrated the beauty of their diversity and strength of their unity, as they merged their individual talents and perspectives into creating designs that echo the beauty of representation and inclusivity.

During the Jury Week, these aspiring designers prepared their showcase booths to impress the jury panel consisting of renowned names in the fashion design industry – Romain Urnel (Professor of Metawear Styling at ESMOD Tokyo), Fedrick Wong (ESMOD Kuala Lumpur’s Faculty Head), Abu Shaif bin Abu Hamza (Creative Director of ABU), and Dr. Loh Seng Kean (Founder & Director of Kenny Loh Couture).

Following the fashion show was the award presentation ceremony – conferring the four main awards to the deserving winners. The “Best Fashion Design Award” went to Daniel Lee Zhen Hong for his collection ‘metallgeist’ – a ready-to-wear female streetwear brand that instils a sense of fearless self-expression, an armor for Millenials and Gen Z women to be confident, independent, and free.

Kew Qian Ru’s collection ‘of light, of being, of love’ was honoured with the “Best Pattern Making Award”. The collection is inspired by the Tyndall effect where light beams become visible as light passes through a medium, symbolizing unseen yet real beauty.

The “Coup de Coeur”, an award for the collection that won the hearts of the jury, was presented to Chiah Herng Pinn for his collection ‘Distortion’ that incorporated distorted elements in the form of unconventional silhouettes that shift and transform with the body’s movement, creating an ever-changing visual effect.

Finally, the highly coveted prestigious “Golden Needle Award” – a pure gold needle made into a necklace, was awarded to the most exemplary student to honour their achievement throughout their study at ESMOD Kuala Lumpur. This year, the exclusive award was presented to Cheryl Lock Yong Jia, who is also the president of this batch of graduates.

Upon graduation, these young designers will go out to take the fashion world by storm and this fashion show serves as a prelude to their talents and creativity. The next step in their journey to success is to undergo an internship under some of the biggest names in the fashion industry to further enhance their mastery. ESMOD Kuala Lumpur strives to continue providing a platform for its students to proudly exhibit their hard work and knowledge earned over the years through stunning fashion shows.
